OregonPDF in Health & Performance Celebrates 75th Anniversary

In 2023 OregonPDF in Health & Performance celebrates the 75th Anniversary of its founding in 1948.

Brief Historical Background
The microform publication of human movement studies began in 1948 at Springfield College, Mass., where Professor H. Harrison Clarke encouraged use of a newly-developed wartime technology, the micro-card, to efficiently gather and preserve studies in the applied physiological sciences. No other discipline had ever archived whole dissertations in this manner and the Collection of silver halide microform remains to this day the archival standard, with a protracted life expectancy of 500 to 1000 years, properly housed.

In 1953, when Professor Henry Harrison Clarke moved to the University of Oregon, he brought the Collection with him, then known as Microcard Publications, hosted by the University's College of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.

In the mid-1980s, the UO’s College of Human Development and Performance placed the University of Oregon Microform Publications (which Microcard Publications had become in 1965) under the administration of the newly formed International Institute for Sport and Human Performance (IISHP).

In 2005, the University of Oregon Microform Publications became Kinesiology Publications. The publication then transitioned and in 2008 became OregonPDF in Health & Performance, the Assumed Business Name (ABN) for this activity of the Eugene Health & Performance Foundation. Recognizing the historical timing for a necessary change from microform to PDF, OregonPDF in Health & Performance created a dedicated website presence, enabling access to downloadable PDF conversions of the original Collection of microcard and microfiche. The Collection has now grown to over 13,000 studies with physical copies of the complete microform Collection located at the offices of OregonPDF in Health & Performance, with a duplicate microform Collection accessible within the Knight Library on the University of Oregon's campus.

Since its inception in 1948, Microform Publications has been providing, in its several iterations, a continuous service to the faculty and student academic community. Since the service went online in 2008, it has been accessed by over one million users and 140 countries, with the USA, expectedly, having the highest usage at 70% of sessions, followed by Canada and Australia, both with 10% of sessions. Its mission and intellectual focus remains the dissemination of graduate research in the multi-faceted areas of physical activity and health and of national and international significance.

SPRING 2019

Recently, the original programming language for the OregonPDF in Health & Performance website was approaching the point where Adobe was going to discontinue support, officially announced for April 2019.

Anticipating this, the OPDF website has been migrated onto a newer platform (v.2016 as opposed to v.2011). Following the testing for all functions, including SEARCH and PDF UPLOAD and DOWNLOAD in a variety of browsers, the website became 'live' on the new server today. We anticipate that this new server will provide a quicker, more stable response from the website for all users, for the foreseeable future.

Current subscribers do not need to take any action as the migration retained all previous data. Please contact office@oregonpdf.org if you have any questions.

Under attack! - A CAPTCHA response

Due to repeated attacks from automated SPAM 'bots' (internet robots) we have been forced to install a CAPTCHA question on the form that non-subscribing organizations use for ordering studies and research. You will see that there is now a simple confirmation "I'm not a robot" that must be clicked on.

We hope that this simple confirmation achieves the purpose of keeping out unwanted SPAM and permits us to better serve both subscribers and non-subscribers.
